No-Rice Guildford to Brighton 2009 (West Wittering)

Bank Holiday Monday – 31/08/09

For our G2B run this year we are going from Ladymead Retail park Guildford (GU1 1AJ) to West Wittering Beach (PO20 8AJ), apart from the weather last year’s event was a good day out so why change a good thing.

Quoting their website they say:

“The extensive acres of neatly mown grass close to the beach are perfect for parking, and picnics. The sea is popular with wind and kite surfers, while shallow lagoons are left on extensive sandy flats at low tide. The whole area is internationally recognised for its wildlife, birds and unique beauty. “- http://www.westwitteringbeach.co.uk/

The car park is open 06.30 – 20.30 and all vehicles must leave car park by closing time when the gate will be locked.

Being a private site there is a cost to get in and park, but this is what keeps the caravans out and stops the place being closed down, the only reason we cant go to Brighton is that the park land we used 2 years ago has now been blocked off after travellers moved in and wrecked the place.

On Bankholiday Monday they are asking for High season weekend prices, which is £7 per car if you turn up before 3pm, £5 after.

Itinerary:

• 09:00am – Arrive at Ladymead Guildford, sort out all the cars, hand out directions, sell stickers etc
• 09:30am – Depart Ladymead Guildford
• 11:00am – Arrive at West Wittering Beach
• 03:00pm – Show and Shine
• 08:30pm – Car park closed and locked

Stickers will be available to buy throughout the day, or collect if you have paid before hand

Show and Shine:

Like last year we have again been very kindly donated prizes for our “Show and Shine”, the main competition is going to be judged by NoGrille and Dubplate Dan, there will also be a prize for “Car of the Show” voted for by everyone else.

So while you’re enjoying a BBQ, wandering about, playing games or just sitting having a good chat with everyone, keep your eyes open for your favourite car.

• 1st Prize – Zaino Z-CS Clear Seal and a Sonus Clay Bar Kit
• 2nd Prize – Grand Finale Spray Seal and a Sonus Clay Bar Kit
• 3rd Prize – Zaino Show Car Wash and a Sonus Clay Bar Kit

Food & Drink :

We are going to be taking 2 large bbq’s and plenty of fuel so if you want to just bring some food then I’m sure we can find a space to get it cooked. Otherwise feel free to bring your own BBQ, food and drink.

Bringing food with you will be the easiest way but if you want to grab some stuff on the way then between Boardbridge and Stockbridge on the A259 are the following shops:

• Co-Op
• Tesco
• Waitrose
• Somerfield

See you all bright and early Monday morning ready for a good day out  in the sun.

While a small village pub in the middle of the Surrey countryside may not be quite as prestigious as a drag strip or as large as a retail park it can still host a gathering to remember. Last Friday saw No Rice’s first Dub to the Pub meet, providing an opportunity for club members from across the country to get to meet each other and spend more time together than the monthly meet allows.

An unusually sunny evening allowed banter to continue well into the early hours, and the camp site was relaxed enough for the pace of Saturday to only be dictated by what was drunk on Friday. Needless to say some paces were considerably slower than others…

As this was a new venture for the club it was uncertain how the trip would turn out, but all in all Dub to the Pub was a success that will pave the way for future events which can only get bigger and better.

No-Rice at the Beach

Hi Guys, due to reasons out of our control, the Guildford to Brighton run has been relocated.

Please accept our apologies for the short notice, however, it came about that we would require public liability insurance to the tune of £2,000,000 worth of cover, therefore pushing the costs too high.

After a re-think, we have decided to change the event rather than cancel it altogether.

With this in mind, the No-Rice at the Beach run will take place from Ladymead, Guildford and end at West Wittering Beach.

West Wittering Beach has over 20 acres of grassland parking, almost perfect for our needs and has the added bonus of the beach over the road should anyone fancy it. The car park / field allow BBQs and should allow us plenty of freedom to line up and have a laugh.

The only cost involved is parking, West Wittering charge to enter the site and this currently stands at £7 for Weekends and Bank Holidays. Although this is slightly more than planned, the venue is perfectly suited for the event and foregoes any need for costly insurance and rentals (with liability insurance the cost of the G2B would have increased).

The plan of attack would be a meet at Ladymead for 9am sharp, followed by a departure at 10am. This should see us arrive at West Wittering for near on 12 0′clock.

BBQs are allowed so simply bring your own, think Nogrille is bringing his beast but lets not all try and muscle in on his hotplate.
